Why a stainless steel litter box?
Plastic litter boxes get rough over time. Urine and residue settle into the scratches, and the box can still smell even right after cleaning. A stainless steel tray has this problem far less.

Is STEELOO big enough for a Maine Coon?
Yes. Your cat should be able to turn all the way around in the box. As a rule of thumb, the box should be about one and a half times as long as your cat without the tail. At 59.5 cm (23.4 in) long, STEELOO works for large breeds like the Maine Coon or Norwegian Forest Cat too. At 15.5 cm (6.1 in) high, it keeps the litter in the tray while older cats can still step in easily.

LOOMAT catches the litter in front of the box
When cats step out, they carry litter on their paws. The LOOMAT litter mat measures 60 × 40 cm (23.6 × 15.7 in), so it fits right in front of STEELOO. Its double-layer honeycomb structure catches the granules, and you simply pour them back into the box.
How to keep the stainless steel tray looking good
For everyday cleaning, warm water or a mild dish soap is all you need. If urine ever leaves light spots, put a splash of lemon juice or a little vinegar on a soft cloth, let it sit briefly, wipe, and rinse with clean water. Then dry the tray well. Skip steel wool and abrasive cleaners, they leave scratches.
Any common cat litter works in STEELOO. TOFU cat litter works especially well, since the clumps come away easily from the smooth floor.

Which is better, a stainless steel or a plastic litter box?
A stainless steel tray is non-porous and much more scratch-resistant. Urine doesn't soak in, and the surface stays smooth and easy to clean longer. In lab comparisons, 3 to 10 times fewer bacteria remained on stainless steel after wiping than on other surfaces (Stevens & Holah, Journal of Applied Bacteriology 75 (1993); Frank & Chmielewski, Journal of Food Protection 60 (1997)). Plastic boxes cost less, but they get rough over time and can turn yellow.
Does a stainless steel litter box smell less?
